The Pharmacy Technician I, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, will carry out specific pharmacy tasks including filling and re-filling prescriptions; entering prescriptions and medication orders into computer system.

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalency.
  • Is considered a "Technician in Training." A technician who is just beginning or is in the process of certification a newly licensed technician with limited pharmacy technician experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience as a Pharmacy Tech in a similar setting.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced, culturally diverse environment.
  • Cash handling experience.
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulations where applicable.
  • Bilingual English-Spanish preferred.
  • Personal and friendly to customers.
  • Applies basic knowledge of RX-30 and P.O.S.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receives prescriptions, selects the appropriate product and quantities to be dispensed, delivers the filled medication order, and completes cash receipt and billing activities after the pharmacist reviews for accuracy.
  • Enters patient medication order or prescription into the pharmacy Centricity computer system or transcribes into appropriate documents.
  • Assist the pharmacist with identification of patient medication order or prescription processing problems, proposed alternative solutions, implementation of the resolution chosen, and follow-up.
  • Documents dispensing preparation, charging information, workload, and quality assurance data.
  • Labels and maintains quantities of pharmaceuticals and supplies and has basic knowledge of creating and preparing McKesson orders
  • Complies with Federal and State statutes, rules, and regulations regarding the practice of pharmacy.
  • Maintains and updates the integrity of pharmacy PC computer databases, performs routine system backups, and runs required reports.
  • Repackages and labels medications available only in bulk containers into unit dose packages.
  • Check in drug orders and stores them in the appropriate area.
  • Answers telephone and assists patients’ with questions or concerns in a professional manner. 
  • Assists with orientation and training of pharmacy staff.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, following medication administration, storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Maintains clinic reputation by assuring that all patient information is kept confidential.
  • Contributes to financial objectives by billing payors (primary, secondary and third-party), collecting co-payments from patients, and assuring insurance information is correct and timely.
  • Understands and complies with quality control procedures.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Protects patients/customers privacy by adhering to HIPAA Policy.

Pay Type: Hourly
